At Mumpara Group’s IE Project, the heart of our mission lies in empowering Indigenous individuals to seize opportunities that can transform their lives. Taisharn’s journey is a remarkable testament to the life-changing impact of such initiatives.

Stepping into Opportunity

Fresh out of school at the age of 18, Taisharn found herself at a crossroads. Seeking stability and growth beyond casual hospitality and retail jobs, she was eager for more.

The turning point came when she learned about a Trainee Laboratory Technician position being advertised by IEP. The role was for OCTIEF, an environmental consulting group offering a comprehensive range of hazardous material, environmental, occupational, and laboratory services. Intrigued by the prospect of a full-time position with better job security, Taisharn sceptically took the leap and submitted her application.

A Journey of Transformation

OCTIEF, headquartered in Brisbane, had recognised the need for a suitable trainee to join their Darwin team. Drawn by our reputation as a leading Indigenous specialist recruitment agency in the Northern Territory, OCTIEF turned to IEP for assistance in finding the right candidate. Taisharn’s potential and determination immediately stood out. In her interactions, she exuded a sense of maturity, professionalism, and eagerness to learn.

The interview that followed only solidified what was apparent – Taisharn possessed not only the right attitude but also a strong work ethic that promised growth. Despite her lack of previous experience, Taisharn’s potential shone through, and she was offered the position. With excitement and a hint of nervousness, she stepped into her role as a Trainee Laboratory Technician.

Rising to New Heights

Over the course of almost a year, Taisharn’s journey has been nothing short of inspiring. Her determination and willingness to learn have propelled her forward. Through on-the-job training and formal studies conducted in other states, she has acquired a wealth of knowledge. Today, she stands proudly as a laboratory technician who can independently examine house materials, including potentially hazardous substances like asbestos. She’s also in the process of mastering the art of analysing soil samples, showcasing her dedication to continuous growth.

Within a small team, Taisharn thrives as a self-motivated individual. While her colleagues are often out on the field, she dedicates her days to meticulously extracting fibres and analysing particles in the laboratory. Her reports, a culmination of her diligent work, provide valuable insights to clients. This newfound expertise has not only transformed her professional life but also given her a sense of purpose and pride.

A Vision of Future Growth

The exposure to the laboratory environment has been an eye-opening experience for Taisharn. Her aspirations have evolved, and she now envisions a career where she can work in medical settings and more. Despite the challenges that came with understanding the technical language of her job description – which she humorously recalls involved reading six sizable books before feeling comfortable with a microscope – Taisharn’s dedication and perseverance have led her to remarkable heights.

As we reflect on Taisharn’s journey, her success is a testament to the immense impact that meaningful opportunities can have. IEP’s dedication to fostering growth and empowerment has not only transformed her life but has also enriched the Darwin community and the corporate landscape. This story is a celebration of Taisharn’s remarkable journey and a reminder that empowerment and growth are achievable for all who dare to embrace them.

Taisharn’s inspiring journey with Mumpara’s IE Project illustrates the boundless potential that lies within each individual, waiting to be ignited through the power of opportunity.
